For many years Cliff VK6NK
presided over the Western Australian Worked All Shires Award, however it
fell by the wayside around 1998 and was not continued. The Northern Corridor
Radio Group ( VK6ANC & VK6WPR ) has decided to re-instate the award but
on a slightly different format. The original award was for Shires and
Postcode areas but this has been changed to Shires only. Also the original
award was geared towards contest type periods at arranged times of the year.
Given the increase in foundation licencees and the lower power levels it was
felt by club members that there was a need to stimulate activity on the
lower bands and VHF on a State level. The award is for contacts made with
stations in the various Shires at any time over any period as per standard DX
type awards. There are presently 144 Shires in the State of Western Australia.
The award is for contacts made and confirmed with Amateur stations either base
station or portable meeting the following conditions.
Standard Award -
50 Shires Confirmed. Honour Award - 100 Shires Confirmed Excellence
Award - All 144 Shires Confirmed
This is a mixed modes award, CW, SSB
and Digital . There are two categories for the award, HF and VHF. HF is
160 - 30 mtrs all modes and VHF is 6 Mtrs upwards all modes.

Certificates will be issued and hopefully acknowledged on the WIA
website where appropriate. Accreditation for the various awards should start
with contacts made from the 1st August 2006 and continue from then. There
may be interest from Interstate or even overseas amateurs to achieve this
award and that is encouraged, the Certificates will be available to them
also.
To the details.
The awards is available for all Lower HF bands from 160
to 30 mtrs inclusive for HF and 6 mtrs to whatever ! for the VHF award.
Confirmation by certified log entry sheets. The verification will be by
submission of official log sheets to VK6XH (Award Manager) complete with
appropriate return postage etc and confirmation by the NCRG Committee.
Certification of log sheets is a difficult area to cover, provisional
suggestions are that the log be verified by two local amateurs and
subject to scrutiny by the NCRG Committee. We will adopt this policy and
trust in the “Honour” of amateurs. Official Log sheets are available on the
NCRG website as a Word document for downloading, and your log can be
handwritten or typed in. QSL confirmation is not required but is desired! The
first amateur to achieve contacts with all WA Shires in each of the two
categories will be awarded a Plaque sponsored by VK6XH to be held
permanently, subsequent achievers will be awarded the appropriate
certificates. The proposal of different power levels was also considered,
given the Foundation license power limit of 10 watts, however, it was felt
this could not be implemented.
Any comments are to be directed to vk6xh@wia.org.au The award commenced from
the starting date of 1/8/2006
